PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Each adult education program currently offers, or is required to begin offering, adult education classes/services in corrections settings. Some centers have robust corrections programs, while other stated that they were struggling to get their programs up and running. The Thorn Hill PLC product is a document (or resource guide) that is comprised of guidelines and suggestions for adult education in corrections.
LIVE AND LEARN, MESSY MOMENTS
An area of struggle for this PLC was deciding what to include in the document, and how much content to cover.
This has been a year of big changes in the structure of many programs. Everyone had/has a specific way of managing their programs. As a result, when deciding on the content for certain sections of the document, there were some strained moment in trying to reach consensus.
What I know now, is that it is necessary to anticipate this, and prepare group members (at the beginning when establishing ground rules) to have a plan to address this when it happens.
MASTERY MOMENTS
There was a sense of accomplishment that the task was completed, especially because it seemed so uncertain at the beginning. It will be considered successful, if a center/program can implement (or strengthen) their adult education services in a correctional setting by following the suggestions provided in the document.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO CLONE THIS PRODUCT?
Another provider may have to adjust some aspects of the documents based on the size and location of their correctional facility. The complete product includes the document plus the supporting materials (map and appendices).
